<image:caption>You’ve seen me in Thrillist, Bustle, Greatist, Parade, MTV, IFC, and even Snooki’s blog (jealous?). Before then, I was an actor. Trust me, singing songs Off-Broadway gave me zero qualifications to become a writer. And I don’t write about incredible, life changing stories. I write about Rocky IV and canned wine. About gut health’s connection to depression and the best Amazon finds under $1. I got paid to write about Eurovision for MTV! All of this came from simple, cold pitches.</image:caption>

Let me guess, you want to be able to write what you actually care about. Without waiting for an agent or editor to say it's okay. The good news: An audience makes that happen. The even better news: A newsletter is the best way to build an audience. You don’t have to post on social media every day, get on TikTok, or try some weird marketing thing that feels like crap. You just have to write and share your work. Aka, the thing you’re already good at. Starts Spring 2024</image:caption>

      <image:title>About - About Amber</image:title>
<image:caption>For 13 years, Amber was a professional actor in New York and Los Angeles. She starred Off-Broadway in 50 Shades! The Musical, taught and performed at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, and did improv around the world with Baby Wants Candy. And who could forget her one line on Masters of Sex? Note: It’s safe to look up the clip. You won’t find it and she’s not naked. Growing tired of waiting for auditions, she started freelance writing. She started by writing pickle recipe roundups for Snooki’s blog and now writes for The New York Times, MTV, Thrillist, IFC, Bustle, Greatist, Healthline, Parade, and more. In January 2021, Amber debuted her class Freelance Writing for Creatives. Since then, her students have appeared in Business Insider, Huffington Post, Vox, Eater, Thrillist, Buzzfeed, the San Francisco Chronicle, and many more. Most of them started with…no previous writing samples. All of Amber’s writing work started after 30. If you’re not 21 and want to try writing (and getting paid for it), you’re not weird. It’s normal and you can start something new at any age. Amber can help you do it.</image:caption>

The Perfectionist’s Half-Assed Writing Challenge is a 2 hour pre-recorded event to help you write more, worry less, and tell that “it’s not GOOD ENOUGH!!!!” voice to calm down off for a second. Whether you’re still a straight-A student at heart, an adult who overthinks every paragraph, or a woman who second-guesses every idea before deciding “nobody cares,” this challenge is for you. Get 2 hour workshop recording (broken into bite sized pieces) on how to brainstorm ideas, create simple stories that sell, and find out that writing doesn’t have to be so hard! Plus, you’ll finish a rough draft pitch (or 350 words of a story) article by the end of the workshop. And you can use those exercises again and again to keep writing easy. <image:title>Perfectionist's Half-Assed Writing Challenge - Hello, I’m a perfectionist</image:title>
<image:caption>Also, my name is Amber Petty and I’m a writer for the New York Times, Thrillist, Greatist, Bustle, MTV, IFC, and a bunch more (including Snooki’s blog, are you jealous?). In the last 4 years, I’ve taught over 1000 students and helped hundreds of people get bylines and build their audience. When I started writing, I naturally assumed I sucked. I thought everything I wrote wasn’t good enough, clever enough, or important enough. Yet, I wanted to write (and needed to make money), so I tried freelance writing. That meant I had to turn in articles before I had a chance to make them “perfect.” Because I got $20 an article and had to write 25 articles a week, I turned in some real half-assed work. And guess what happened… I kept getting work! I found out that my bar of “good enough” was completely off. And work that felt half-assed to me was perfectly whole-assed to lots of people (people that paid for writing specifically). As a perfectionist, you have the jerkiest critic living in your head, criticizing every word or idea before it even has a chance. For this challenge, I’ll help you tell that critic to go suck an egg and leave you alone. Take a break from your perfectionism and see what happens with your writing.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Writing can feel very solitary. Through this class I not only had deadlines and feedback, but gained a sense of community. I met some really kind people who also happen to be writers. This class stretched the boundaries of what I think I can write. This class not only focused on the quality of the writing, but on the business end of pitching, promoting yourself, and getting paid. The marketing tools set me up for success after the class ended. — Sharon Spell</image:caption>

<image:caption>“When the only voice of feedback you hear is the one in your head, writing can become paralyzing. And that's exactly where I was before this class. But thanks to the format of the class and the way everyone can communicate with each other so regularly, I received feedback that's made me silence my imposter syndrome with much greater strength. Part therapy. Part summer camp. And a whole lot of writing. The class inspired me to follow my path and return to writing about things I care about — music and the arts. With the confidence I gained in this class, I sent out a few pitches and inquiries to organizations I would want to write for, and within one month had work on the calendar with three symphony orchestras.” — Michael Cirigliano</image:caption>

<image:caption>I was bowled away by Amber's warmth, generosity and commitment to the class. Feedback on pitches and stories happened usually within 24 hours and she always had thoughtful and useful critique delivered in a kind and helpful way. I was hesitant about the price, but I justified it by thinking that I would begin pitching almost immediately, and if I managed to sell a few of the stories that I wrote in the class, it would pay for itself. — Amy Tector</image:caption>

      <image:title>Testimonials</image:title>
<image:caption>This was by far the most helpful writing class I have ever taken. I didn't think I was a "professional writer.” What's crazy is that I realized I had been using the idea of a "professional writer" to stop me from actually writing for years. This class cured me of this illusion. The course opens up the potential for you to make money as a writer. The dream you have of turning your ideas into profit CAN materialize. This class is like playing "Writing: the RPG," and you will feel like a word wizard in the end. The class has a series of helpful videos that express, in a clear and concise way, how you can approach obtaining freelance jobs in the industry. Amber also proposes a series of writing challenges that will shake you out of apathy and self-doubt. Her feedback is impeccable, and you don't have to worry about writing to her proclivities. She is objective, fair, constructive and positive. Her criticism really helped me be MORE of the writer I already was, as opposed to molding me into something I'm not. I wrote about butts, blue-ringed octopuses, and other weird subjects. You know what? I was never judged for considering any of them. The live zooms are a safe space and hearing the collective journeys of your fellow classmates makes writing goals seem all the more attainable. In this course, you're truly not alone. — Collin Miller</image:caption>

<image:caption>The feedback was spot-on every time- Amber knew exactly how to tighten and refine work- and it was particularly valuable in the context of what sells and what works vs just “improvement”- I love that! I’m an experienced writer with a two college degrees in writing- it’s easy to brush off the opportunity for feedback and assume you know plenty, but in this class I had constant access to someone who was able to see what might make my piece the most successful and marketable and now I’m able to apply those changes on my own. — Bonnie Sludikoff</image:caption>

<image:caption>I now have a *process* to follow from 'wanting' to get a byline, to coming up with ideas easily, to pitching, to knowing how to follow up, and knowing how to write different kinds of pieces. I feel certain about what step to take next... and that feeling of certainty means a LOT when there's plenty of uncertainty out there (i.e 'will they like my pitch?'). Also, I can now see how my ridiculous ideas can actually be *worthwhile* to pitch. That's HUGE for me. The class has all the elements of support you need to make that happen, and build the muscles and habits to make pitching feel as 'not a big deal' to your nervous system as...showering. Also, Amber is fucking hilarious and SO good at what she does...this class is worth price of entry ALONE for access to her brilliance for those weeks. — Miish Grixti</image:caption>

      <image:title>Paid Publicity - Wait, who’s teaching this?</image:title>
<image:caption>Hello, my name is Amber Petty! I’ve written for the New York Times, Parade, Bustle, Greatist and a bunch more including Snooki’s blog (jealous?). After starting my business in 2021, I’ve helped hundreds of creatives and entrepreneurs get published in Huffington Post, the Wall Street Journal, Business Insider, the Cut, Washington Post, the New York Times, and lots more. Many started with no previous writing samples. Just a genius brain and ideas to share. Though I have a place in my heart for Instagram and too many minutes of my day devoted to TikTok, it’s wonderful to find places outside of the algorhithm to get eyes on your work. Pitching does exactly that. Bonus: Any pitch that doesn’t get picked up can immediately turn into an email, blog post, social post, or other piece of content. A chance at major media attention with no time wasted.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Workshops - Hello, I’m Amber</image:title>
<image:caption>I’m a writer for the New York Times, Thrillist, Greatist, Bustle, MTV, IFC, and a bunch more (including Snooki’s blog, are you jealous?). In the last 4 years, I’ve taught over 1000 students, helped hundreds of people get bylines and build their audience, and made at least $150,000 a year. I’m not a marketer or a business genius. I’m a former improviser with a BA in Theater. There’s endless advice on building a business and running workshops. But this is one of the very few courses that focuses on keeping your unique, creative humanity as the core. Yes, you’ll learn sales techniques and some of it might feel a little weird. But it’s not scammy or manipulative. In fact, you’ll already be good because most of it is story telling. Hence my extremely unprofitable acting background turning into my greatest asset in business. Every time I send a sales email (an email with the express purpose to sell a course, mind you), someone writes back “thanks for this, I love your emails.” On a sales email! Not because I’m so cool (though I am, but it’s unrelated), but because I’m just a human being sharing how my stuff can help other humans. That’s it. Workshops aren’t instant goldmines. Nothing is. But they’ve been the most creatively satisfying and financially liberating things I’ve ever done.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Perfectionist's Half-Assed Marketing Challenge - Fun First. Marketing Second.</image:title>
<image:caption>Available Instantly. Watch Now. “You need to be consistent. Have a plan. Maximize leads!” Okay, sure. But how can you do all that when marketing feels less enjoyable than cleaning your toilet? Instead of forcing yourself to market like corporate hustlers, it’s time to make marketing work for you and your unique, creative brain. How do you do that as a perfectionist? Half-ass it! In this 4-Day experiment (aka, daily challenge), you’ll go from “ugh, this feels gross” to “I’m talking to my people” And find the type of marketing you like best. Fun fact: When you like what you do, you’ll want to do it more. Aka, you’ll automatically become consistent and work towards a plan, without any content calendars and TikTok growth hacks required. 4 days of training, accountability, and sharing a marketing post each day… Only $50!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Perfectionist's Half-Assed Marketing Challenge - Hello, I’m a perfectionist who used to hate marketing</image:title>
<image:caption>Also, my name is Amber Petty and I’m a writer for the New York Times, Parade, Bustle, MTV, IFC, and a bunch more. And I’ve grown my newsletter to 11,000 subscribers in 3 years, which supports my 6-figure business. Currently, I help 300+ writers get bylines and grow their audience in my membership, the Pitching Hour. Before all that, I was an actor and I hated promoting my shows more than auditioning. And auditioning was terrible! But asking someone to come to a show felt like I was asking if I could stab them lightly with a knife. The whole process was miserable and as a result, my audiences were empty. When I started my newsletter and business, I needed to make peace with marketing. Yes, I followed lots of “expert strategies,” including one that cost me $10,000 and asked me to follow rules that made 0 sense for my work. Over time, I focused on what I wanted to share, how I helped people, and how I could make it clear why people would like my stuff. And they did. My newsletter and business grew and one day I sat down to write an ad and thought “ooh, this is so fun!” Yes, the marketing part was as fun as everything else in my business. I’m not some genius who found out the “secrets to getting more leads.” But I have found ways to bring creativity and personality to marketing, both for me and my clients. In this challenge, you don’t need to worry about numbers, hashtags, or best times to post. You just have to show up, bring your creative energy, and feel the freedom of reaching new fans.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Sell Something By Spring - Hello, I thought I was worthless</image:title>
<image:caption>Also, my name is Amber Petty and I’ve run a 6-figure creative business since 2021. Also, I’ve helped hundreds of students get their first byline, create delightful newsletters, and start making money from their creative skills. But when I was 31, I felt worthless. I’d spent my life trying to make it as an actor, but couldn’t handle putting my life on hold in the off chance I got an audition for “woman disappointed by scale.” For 20 years, I trained tirelessly in acting, singing, and improv, aka things no one wanted to pay for. I thought I wasted my life on worthless skills. Thankfully for me, I didn't feel worthless for long. As I became a freelance writer and built up my business, all the shit I learned from acting school and improv shows was key to my success. Writing a sales page or doing a webinar was way easier for me than people with an MBA. Every skill I thought was a waste of time was fundamental to making $757,000 in the last 4 years. Yes, I just checked that number. My creative BS made me three quarters of a million dollars so far. I hardly believe it myself. I'm not saying you need to start doing theater and improv. But all your creative skills are worthwhile, necessary, and can help you make money! So, to show you how you can experiment with using your creative delights to make something fun and helpful that people will pay for, I made Sell Something By Spring. Because you’re too talented to go ignored.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Watch Now. Keep Forever. Perfectionists, stop overthinking and write copy like the weirdo you are! In this 90 minute challenge, you’ll clear away the cobwebs of “good marketing” and write like an actual human that cares. By the end of the call, you’ll have an ad, email, or big chunk of a landing page - done. Not following a template or with douche-y sales speak. But by getting out of your own way. <image:title>Perfectionist's Half-Assed Copy Challenge - Hello, I’m a perfectionist</image:title>
<image:caption>Also, my name is Amber Petty and I’ve written for the New York Times, Thrillist, Greatist, Bustle, MTV, IFC, and a bunch more (including Snooki’s blog, are you jealous?). In the last 4.5 years, I grew my newsletter to over 11,000 subscribers and made over $830,000 in my business that helps creative get more attention. When I started, I came fresh off of two failed newsletters, a failed business, and a failed acting career. Yay! What changed? I decided to be my full weird self. Instead of being precious about my copy and worrying about “bothering everyone’ with my marketing, I did what felt fun. If that meant cussing up a storm and using Little Mermaid quotes in marketing emails, by gum I did it. Instead of hoards of internet haters throwing digital pitchforks, I found an audience. An audience that liked what I did and paid me for more. If I stayed a “do everything right” perfectionist, my business wouldn’t be here. Being a slightly messy weirdo unafraid to put up stuff despite “let me just tweak this ONE THING” running through my brain? I have a 6-figure business, get to express my creativity every day (and get paid), and help other lovely oddballs get over “bothering” people and cut to the “shut up and take my money” stage. Truly, half-assing it is the first step. Take a break from your perfectionism and see what you can really do.</image:caption>
